The Shannon River Cultural Project 2026 Shannon River Keepers seeks to connect and bring visibility to the resilient network of river guardians along the Shannon - Source to Sea. The team is an interdisciplinary group interested in the health and vitality of the River Shannon. We bring ecological, community, legal, socially engaged and cultural knowledge to connect, and collaborate with new and existing stakeholders including individuals, farming and fishing communities, local authorities, organizations and community groups, from source to sea engaged with river health and community custodianship to imagine and map a catchments-wide alliance.

We aim to support and develop communication, visibility and connectivity of river keepers and guardians across the multi-county area. Our group’s methodology links to the national and international movements exploring rights of nature and bioregioning to transform relationships to water and landscapes across the island. Our approach invites and supports collective action and transformative systemic change for healthy ecosystems and thriving communities of human and more-than-human life through five streams of water custodianship: Cultural, Practical, Legal, Educational, and Sacred.
